I founded the Mt. Holly Duck Sanctuary in 2005 after suffering a stroke that took my life for a brief time and left me paralyzed for months on my left side. I became convinced I was sent back for a purpose and that purpose was the care of one of the most innocent, sweet animals on earth- ducks. With my wife Gigi we built fences, housing and gathered all the things ducks might need. Now three years later our mission here remains unchanged. Our mission is to give ducks a chance to live and thrive without fear of winding up on someone's dinner plate. We have five breeds right now, pekin, muscovy, mallard, rouen and blue swede. Some are a few years old and some only a few months but all are happy and love their 'Daddy'. Our goal is to see to it that they live long and protected lives here where people really care about ducks. We are not rehabbers, we cannot take wild ducks as yet. Our ducks are all domestic breeds.
Two little ducks came to us with badly deformed legs and live in our home with us. They are 2 1/2 years old now and have good lives and even have their own TV to watch (they love Barney the Dinosaur) and get baths and treats and fresh cotton towel bedding every day. They are the first thing I see when I get up and remind me just why we are here and do what we do.
